  FAAC: Three Tiers of Government Share ₦2.550 Trillion as June 2026 Revenue; States and LGAs Receive Over ₦1.36 Trillion The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed a total of ₦2.551 trillion as Federation Account revenue for June 2026 to the Federal Government, the 36 state governments, and the 774 Local Government Councils across Nigeria. The allocation was approved during the FAAC meeting held in July 2026 in Abuja and chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. The meeting was attended by the Accountant-General of the Federation, State Commissioners of Finance, and other members of the committee. This reform eliminates duplication, reduces fraud, and makes tax registration faster and more accessible for individuals and businesses. With the new system, Nigerians can now obtain or retrieve their TIN using their NIN through a streamlined digital process.


2. What Is a TIN and Why It Matters

A Tax Identification Number (TIN) is a unique identifier issued by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to individuals and organisations for tax purposes. It is required for:

  • Opening corporate and some personal bank accounts

  • Filing tax returns and paying taxes

  • Registering businesses and accessing government contracts

  • Applying for loans, grants, and government incentives

  • Conducting formal business transactions

Without a valid TIN, individuals and companies may face restrictions in financial and regulatory activities.

5. Step-by-Step Guide: How to Obtain Your TIN Using Your NIN

Step 1: Confirm You Have a Valid NIN

Ensure you have completed NIN enrolment with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
You will need:

  • Your 11-digit NIN

  • Correct personal details (name, date of birth, phone number)


Step 2: Visit the Official FIRS TIN Registration Portal

Go to the Joint Tax Board (JTB) / FIRS TIN Registration Portal:

Step 3: Select the Appropriate Registration Option

Choose:

  • “Individual” if registering as a private person

  • “Corporate” if registering a business or organisation

Then select the option for NIN-based registration.

Ensure your name and date of birth match your NIN records to avoid rejection.


Step 5: Submit and Generate Your TIN

Once validated:

  • Your TIN will be generated instantly or within a short processing period

  • You can download or print your TIN slip for official use

In some cases, the system may notify you if a TIN already exists under your name.

If you already have a TIN but cannot remember it:

  1. Visit the TIN retrieval page on the JTB portal

  2. Enter your NIN or registered phone number

  3. Your TIN will be displayed or sent to you via SMS/email
