FG OPENS 1,600 TECHNICAL & VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

The Federal Government has officially announced the establishment of 1,600 Technical and Vocational Training Centres nationwide, a historic move aimed at reducing youth unemployment, strengthening Nigeria’s industrial capacity, and scaling up skills acquisition across all geopolitical zones.

Unveiling the centres at a National Skills Advancement Press Briefing in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education noted that the initiative is designed to respond directly to the nation’s widening skills gap, emphasizing that Nigeria must transition from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one.

He stated that the new centres will focus on digital skills, ICT repair, renewable energy installation, fashion and leather production, automotive diagnostics, welding, construction trades, culinary arts, creative media, agriculture technology, and other vocational pathways aligned with national development priorities.

A NEW ERA FOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

According to government officials, the 1,600 skill centres will serve as training and innovation hubs for students, artisans, unemployed graduates, and school leavers, with special provisions for persons with disability, rural communities, and women-led startups.

This expansion forms part of the Federal Government’s National Skills and Productivity Enhancement Programme (NSPEP) aimed at equipping over 2 million young Nigerians with employable skills by 2027.

The Minister affirmed that certification from these centres will be aligned with National Skills Qualifications (NSQ) standards and globally recognized frameworks, ensuring that graduates are prepared for both local and international labour markets.

PARTNERSHIPS & INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

The implementation process will be carried out in partnership with:

  • State Ministries of Education

  • National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)

  • Industrial Training Fund (ITF)

  • Private sector employers

  • International technical partners

The Director of Vocational and Technical Education stressed that partnership with the private market will ensure trainees move directly into employment, apprenticeship placements, entrepreneurship financing, and industrial attachment programmes.

HYBRIDTECK COMMENDS THE INITIATIVE

Hybridteck Global Business Consult and Hybridteck Home Solutions commend the Federal Government for prioritizing technical and vocational pathways as the backbone of economic growth.

This development aligns strongly with Hybridteck’s existing mission to support TVET innovation, digital learning access, and skills-based infrastructure, empowering Nigerian youths to become job creators rather than job seekers.

NATIONAL IMPACT EXPECTATIONS

With the rollout of the 1,600 centres, national projections indicate:

  • 50% reduction in youth unemployment by 2030

  • Increased local manufacturing capacity

  • Greater expansion of MSMEs

  • Boost in exportable technical services

  • Reduction in reliance on foreign technical labour

This milestone marks a transformative chapter in Nigeria’s human capital development history.

CALL FOR ENROLMENT & PARTICIPATION

Prospective learners, organisations, and community-based training providers are encouraged to engage with the centres immediately as enrolment portals and training schedules are being activated.

Hybridteck News will continue to provide updates on:

  • Training timelines

  • Sector-specific skill modules

  • Admission requirements

  • Funding and scholarship opportunities

Nigeria is like a skyscraper hastily built without proper planning, poor materials, and cheap labor, all overseen by greedy engineers who cared only about their own profit — not the wellbeing of the landlord or its occupants.

Written by,  Moses O Igharo  This skyscraper has a weak foundation and is riddled with cracks. The builders never intended to create a safe, lasting structure; their goal was to keep the building standing just enough to continue extracting wealth from the landlord and the people inside, regardless of the suffering it causes. Instead of tearing down this unsafe building and rebuilding it properly with solid foundations, expert design, and local professionals who understand its needs, the landlord has been advised only to keep pouring money into cosmetic repairs every few years. Billions are spent on paint, patchwork, and temporary fixes, while over 200 million occupants remain trapped inside, hoping these surface treatments will prevent collapse. The reality is grim. The building continues to deteriorate, and its collapse is inevitable. Yet, rather than facing this truth, the occupants are told to seek refuge in prayers and spiritual rituals, diverting attention from the struct...
