FG Launches Nigeria for Women Programme to Reach 25 Million Beneficiaries
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the national scale-up of the Nigeria for Women Programme (NFWP), an ambitious initiative designed to empower 25 million women across the country with access to finance, skills, markets, and essential social services.
The programme was unveiled at a high-level event at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to placing women at the centre of Nigeria’s economic and social development agenda. He emphasized that sustainable national growth cannot be achieved without deliberate investments in women’s economic inclusion (ThisDayLive).
Key Highlights of the Programme
Target: 25 million women nationwide
Focus Areas: Access to finance, skills development, market opportunities, digital inclusion, and social services

Driving Women-Centered Development
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, described the initiative as a strategic shift from traditional welfare models to technology-driven empowerment, positioning women as critical drivers of economic growth, social cohesion, and national stability. She noted that the programme builds on the success of its pilot phase in six states, which reached over one million women and delivered measurable socio-economic impact (ThisDayLive).
A Digital Gateway for Empowerment
At the heart of the expanded programme is the Happy Woman App, which provides a unified digital platform for:
Financial inclusion and credit access
Skills acquisition and vocational training
Market linkages and business opportunities
Access to essential government services
This innovation is expected to significantly enhance transparency, accountability, and service delivery while accelerating women’s participation in Nigeria’s formal economy (Western Post).
A National Call to Action
The Federal Government has called on state governments, development partners, financial institutions, and the private sector to support the nationwide rollout of the programme, ensuring that millions of Nigerian women are empowered to thrive, contribute, and lead.
With this historic scale-up, Nigeria is taking a bold step toward inclusive economic growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable national development, firmly positioning women as catalysts of progress.
