The Smile Collector is a groundbreaking dental psycho-thriller that delves into the complex themes of childhood trauma, psychological instability, and mental disorders, creatively showcasing the students’ storytelling abilities and cinematic depth.

A STUDENT-LED INITIATIVE

This film represents a major milestone for the department as it is a fully student-led screen production, executed by the 300-level students of the Screen Production and Directing class. The project provided the students with complete hands-on involvement in the filmmaking process, including:

  • Idea development

  • Scriptwriting

  • Storyboarding

  • Casting

  • Shooting and cinematography

  • Lighting and sound

  • Editing and post-production

Through this initiative, the students gained real industry experience and practical knowledge required to thrive in film and media production.

THE PREMIERE: A CELEBRATION OF CREATIVITY & EXCELLENCE

The premiere marks the first milestone in the concluding phase of the production journey. It creates an opportunity for the university community, industry professionals, stakeholders, and film lovers to witness the creativity, skill and professionalism demonstrated by the Mass Communication students.

Following the premiere, the film is scheduled to be submitted to various local and international film festivals, positioning BIU students for wider recognition in the creative industry.

OUR OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project is to equip students with practical filmmaking skills that will be beneficial as they transition from academic learning to professional practice. By engaging them in a full-scale film production, we aim to:

  • Strengthen their media and storytelling capabilities

  • Provide exposure to multiple units within the film industry

  • Prepare them for professional opportunities in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, production management and more

This initiative reinforces the department’s commitment to nurturing competent, innovative, and industry-ready media professionals.
