Federal Government Launches NIYA Gigs Program for Young Nigerians in 2025 – A Game-Changer for Youth Empowerment
In a bold move to tackle youth unemployment and harness the digital potential of Nigeria’s teeming young population, the Federal Government officially launched the NIYA Gigs Program in early 2025. Powered by the National Institute for Youth Advancement (NIYA) in partnership with leading tech hubs and development agencies, the initiative is set to onboard 500,000 Nigerian youths into the digital gig economy.
The NIYA Gigs Program is part of the broader Digital Nigeria Vision 2030, designed to equip young Nigerians with high-demand freelance skills, connect them to global gig platforms, and provide them with the tools and mentorship to earn sustainably online.

Government’s Commitment
Speaking at the Abuja launch, the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Zainab Suleiman, noted:
“NIYA Gigs is not just a training program—it’s a bridge to self-reliance. Every young Nigerian deserves a chance to earn with their talent, no matter their background or location.”
The program aims to bridge the urban-rural digital divide, with at least 40% of slots reserved for rural youth and women. The Federal Government has earmarked ₦15 billion for the pilot phase and is actively engaging private sector partners to expand reach.
Success Stories Already Emerging
Within weeks of the soft launch, early participants from pilot states such as Kaduna, Edo, and Lagos have started securing freelance jobs online. Musa Yusuf, a 24-year-old from Kaduna, shared:
“Before NIYA Gigs, I didn’t know how to even write a Fiverr proposal. Now I’ve landed my first client from Canada doing logo design!”
The NIYA Gigs Program is proving to be a timely intervention to transform Nigeria’s youth from job seekers to job creators. By giving them digital skills, work opportunities, and a supportive community, the Federal Government is writing a new chapter in youth empowerment for 2025 and beyond.
