Nigeria Unveils Digital Portal for National Youth Confab to Drive Policy Inclusion
Abuja, Nigeria — June 16, 2025
In a landmark move to bolster youth engagement in governance and national development, the Federal Government of Nigeria officially launched the digital portal for the long-anticipated Nigeria Youth Conference—popularly known as the National Youth Confab—on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The launch ceremony, held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Youth Development in Abuja, brought together youth leaders, government officials, civil society actors, tech innovators, and development partners. The event marked the formal commencement of preparations for the conference, which is set to take place later in the year under the theme: “Charting Nigeria’s Future: The Youth Agenda.”
A New Era of Digital Participation
The newly launched digital portal — www.youthconfab.gov.ng — serves as a one-stop platform where young Nigerians from across the country can register to attend, submit policy papers, participate in virtual forums, and vote on thematic priorities. It represents a shift towards a more inclusive and decentralized policy-making process, leveraging digital tools to ensure no youth voice is left behind.
Speaking at the unveiling, the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Ibrahim Musa, emphasized the importance of the initiative:
“This portal is not just a tool. It is a gateway to policy participation. It empowers millions of Nigerian youths—from Sokoto to Calabar, Lagos to Maiduguri—to be part of shaping the Nigeria they want to see.”
Youth at the Center of National Development
The National Youth Confab is designed to be Nigeria’s largest-ever youth policy engagement platform. The government says it will focus on six core pillars:
-
Education and Skills Development
-
Job Creation and Entrepreneurship
-
Digital Inclusion and Innovation
-
Climate Action and Sustainability
-
Civic Engagement and Leadership
-
Health and Well-being
Participants will have the opportunity to deliberate on these themes both virtually and in zonal consultations, culminating in a week-long physical conference in Abuja.
Reactions and Support
Representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Youth Envoy’s Office, and local youth-led organizations commended the digital approach. Ngozi Etomi, a youth advocate and founder of the VoiceUp Initiative, remarked:
“For the first time, we have a government-backed platform that truly democratizes youth participation. This isn’t just a conference—it’s a movement.”
The digital portal also features features like live updates, multilingual accessibility, an interactive timeline, and a resource hub for research and data. Organizers confirmed that accessibility for persons with disabilities has been prioritized to ensure an equitable experience.
Looking Ahead
With registration already open, early numbers suggest massive interest: within hours of the launch, the portal recorded over 30,000 visits and more than 7,000 registrations from youth nationwide.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that resolutions from the Youth Confab feed directly into the National Development Plan and upcoming constitutional review processes.
As Nigeria’s demographic advantage continues to grow—with over 60% of the population under the age of 30—the National Youth Confab and its digital platform signal a future where young voices are not just heard, but deeply woven into the fabric of national decision-making.
