NELFund Partners with Tradesmen to Boost Employment Opportunities Nationwide
Abuja, Nigeria — June 27, 2025
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) has officially announced a strategic partnership with Nigeria’s tradesmen and artisans to expand employment opportunities and drive economic empowerment through skill-based enterprise development.
The partnership, unveiled today in Abuja, aims to support thousands of skilled workers—such as plumbers, carpenters, electricians, tailors, leather workers, and others—with access to affordable loans, vocational grants, business support services, and digital training. This initiative is part of NELFund’s broader strategy to stimulate job creation, empower the informal sector, and reduce youth unemployment across Nigeria.
“Tradesmen and artisans are the backbone of grassroots enterprise in Nigeria. Through this partnership, we will provide the capital and capacity they need to grow, hire apprentices, and contribute to national development,” Executive Secretary of NELFund.
The program will roll out in collaboration with recognized trade associations, local cooperatives, and vocational training hubs. Beneficiaries will receive financial support to acquire tools, expand workshops, and undergo certification and digital literacy programs, boosting both productivity and competitiveness.
The initiative is expected to create over 250,000 new jobs in its first year, with pilot projects launching in Lagos, Kano, Rivers, and Edo States. NELFund is also partnering with microfinance institutions and business development agencies to ensure smooth disbursement and monitoring.
Stakeholders from the public and private sectors have commended the move, highlighting its potential to uplift the informal economy, formalize skilled trades, and promote youth engagement through apprenticeship opportunities.
