Supreme Court Grant Local Government Autonomy today 11th July, 2024.

Now that the Supreme Court has granted financial autonomy to Local Government Areas in Nigeria, below are what to expect and the changes in the Administration of Local Government Area henceforth.


- The local government areas will receive their funds directly from the Federation Account without state governors being involved.

- State governors will no longer be able to unilaterally dissolve local government councils.

- Local government councils will be democratically elected.

- Caretaker committees will no longer be used to run local government affairs.

- The local government structure is expected to be more effective and efficient.

- State INEC can no longer Conduct LG elections.

Congratulations to all Local Government Council Chairmen who are desirous to develop their various Local Government Council Area.
