About the Founder: Yaqub Nasirudeen
With over 30 years of hands-on experience, Yaqub Nasirudeen brings unmatched expertise to Nigeria’s leather space. Beginning his journey as a young apprentice in the early 1990s, he went on to study Footwear Manufacturing at the Federal College of Chemical and Leather Technology (CHELTECH), Zaria—now known as NILEST.
His strength lies in pattern creation and finishing, giving him an edge in designing unique leather products. Yaqub has trained hundreds of youth and women, especially during his time as a lead trainer under the MAFITA Program (funded by DFID, UKAID, and Adam Smith International), which equipped over 5,000 individuals across northern Nigeria.
National Recognition and Impact
Yaqub Nasirudeen’s leadership earned him the position of President of the Arewa Footwear and Leather Manufacturers Association (AFLEMA) in 2018. Under his tenure, he successfully:
Trained over 700 artisans across Kaduna State
Chaired key MAFITA initiatives including Apprenticeship Management Committee and Gender and Business (GAB)
Served as Master Trainer for the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) across six Nigerian states
Contributed to the development of Nigeria’s National Leather and Leather Products Policy, endorsed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo
His role in fostering entrepreneurship, especially among women and underserved communities, has earned him widespread recognition from both local and international partners.
