Chairman;
Ogbemudia Rural Care Foundation.
Distinguished guests, fellow humanitarians, and all citizens of the world,
Today, on the 19th of August, we come together to observe World Humanitarian Day — a day dedicated to honoring the courage, compassion, and commitment of those who work tirelessly to alleviate suffering and restore hope to millions across the globe. Yet, as we pay tribute to these heroes, we must also confront an uncomfortable truth.
In a world blessed with abundant resources, unparalleled technology, and boundless human potential, too many still live in the shadows of despair. War, famine, displacement, and injustice persist — and the humanitarian crises we face are growing ever more complex. It is not only a test of resources but a test of our collective conscience.
I stand before you today not only to commend the relentless efforts of aid workers and volunteers but to admonish us all — leaders, communities, and individuals alike. We must ask ourselves: Why, in the 21st century, do millions remain trapped in cycles of poverty and conflict ? Why do indifference and inaction continue to fuel the flames of human suffering?
Humanitarianism is not merely the responsibility of a few — it is the duty of every one of us. It requires more than emergency relief; it demands sustained commitment to justice, equity, and peace. We must move beyond temporary solutions and address the root causes of suffering: inequality, oppression, and neglect.
As we observe this day, let it be a call to action — a call to awaken our empathy, to raise our voices against injustice, and to dedicate ourselves to building a world where dignity, safety, and opportunity are not privileges but universal rights.
To those who are suffering — know that your pain is seen, your struggles matter, and your dreams deserve to be realized. To the humanitarians — your bravery inspires us. And to the world — the time for complacency has passed. Let this World Humanitarian Day be a turning point, where we transform words into deeds and hope into reality.
Together, let us strive to be the change-makers, the peace-bringers, and the defenders of humanity. Our shared future depends on it.
Thank you.
